How It Works
Register
Create an account as an individual or for your gallery, museum, or arts organization.
Post a Commission
Describe your exhibition or project, specify word count, set the deadline, and upload supporting materials. Pricing is transparent: $1/word to the writer plus a platform fee (see below).
Writer Claims
A vetted writer in your region claims the commission. Commissioners do not choose writers. Artlance does not match writers to commissions. Writers choose and fulfill commissions with full independence.
Artlance Reviews, Writers Publish
Artlance editorial reviews, checks facts, and ensures the work meets Artlance's Standards of Engagement. Once work is approved, writers publish via their own websites or newsletters. Artlance verifies publication and releases payment.

Pricing
Travel Funds (Optional)
Attach travel funds to a commission so writers from outside your region can claim and travel to fulfill it. Designed for institutions in regions without a deep local writer pool, but available to any commissioner for any reason.
- Open to all writers — any vetted writer can claim. Out-of-region writers receive the travel fund; in-region writers don't need it, and that portion is refunded to commissioners automatically.
- Out-of-region only — restricted to writers outside your commission's region. Useful for intentionally bringing an outside perspective.
- Commissioners set the dollar amount based on expected travel cost. Artlance provides estimates from short, medium, and long-distance origin cities.
- Travel funds are subject to the standard platform fee.
- Encouraged 35-day timeline, from commission creation to publication, so writers have time to book economy airfare.
