Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 19, 2026
This policy explains what information Artlance collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Artlance LLC is the data controller responsible for the personal information processed through the Artlance platform. If anything here is unclear, email us at editorial@artlance.co.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your name and email address. Writers provide professional information (writing samples, regions, payment rate). Commissioners provide organization details, contacts, and a billing address.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. Card and bank details are entered directly with Stripe and are never stored on our servers — we keep only Stripe identifiers and the records needed to track a transaction.
Submission content. When a writer fulfills a commission, we store the submitted writing along with editorial feedback, revisions, and any disputes raised during review.
Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We keep cookies and tracking to a minimum. The first time you visit, a banner lets you accept or decline the optional categories below; you can change your choice any time using the “Cookie Settings” link in the site footer. Your choice is saved in a first-party cookie.
Essential (always active)
These are required for the site to function and cannot be turned off. Supabase Auth stores a session cookie so you stay signed in. Stripe.js sets cookies used for payment security and fraud detection on pages where you make or receive a payment.
Analytics & error reporting (consent required)
These load only if you accept them. Vercel Analytics records anonymous page views and performance metrics — no personal data and no cross-site tracking. Sentry reports application errors, including stack traces and your browser and operating-system version; it is configured not to collect personal data. If you decline, neither is loaded.
Functional
On registration and account pages where you enter an address, the Google Places API provides address autocomplete. As you type, your keystrokes in that field are sent to Google to return address suggestions. This is governed by Google's privacy policy.
How We Use Your Information
Service delivery. We use your information to operate the platform — posting and claiming commissions, managing the editorial lifecycle, and keeping your account secure.
Payments. We use your information to process commissioner payments and writer payouts through Stripe.
Editorial review.Submissions are reviewed for editorial quality. As part of this, submitted writing is processed by Anthropic's Claude API, which assists our editors by checking the piece against the commission brief and flagging possible issues. These results are advisory only — a human editor reviews every submission and makes all approval, revision, and publication decisions. We do not make decisions that significantly affect you using solely automated processing.
Communications. We send transactional emails (through Resend) related to your account and commissions.
Email Communications
We send only transactional email — account, commission, payment, and editorial notifications. We do not send marketing email. Writers control the frequency and scope of commission notifications from their account settings.
We do not track whether you open our emails or click links in them — open and click tracking are turned off on our sending domain. Email is delivered by Resend acting as our processor, which records only standard delivery information.
Information Sharing & Editorial Independence
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers listed below, as needed to run the platform, or where required by law.
A writer's identity is shared with a commissioner only after that writer claims the commission. To protect editorial independence, communication during the commission process is mediated through Artlance LLC.
Third-Party Services
We rely on the following providers. Each receives only the data needed for its function, and each maintains its own privacy practices:
Supabase — authentication and database hosting (account and platform data). Privacy policy.
Stripe — payment processing and fraud detection (payment details, which we never store). Privacy policy.
Vercel — hosting and (with consent) anonymous analytics. Privacy policy.
Sentry — (with consent) application error reporting (stack traces, browser/OS info; no personal data). Privacy policy.
Anthropic — Claude API for AI-assisted editorial review (submission content). Privacy policy.
Resend — transactional email delivery (recipient address, message content). Privacy policy.
Google — Places API for address autocomplete (address keystrokes on input). Privacy policy.
Data Retention
We keep account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward in case you return or we need it to resolve a dispute. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data except where we are required to keep it.
Payment and transaction records are retained as long as financial and tax regulations require. Submission content (published and unpublished writing, and the associated editorial record) is retained as part of our editorial archive.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, request a portable copy, or object to or restrict certain processing. You can update much of your information directly in your account settings.
To make any other request, email editorial@artlance.co. At our current scale these requests are handled manually, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
International Data Transfers
Artlance is operated from the United States, and the service providers above process and store data in the United States. If you use the service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US. Where required, we and our providers rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers. By using the service, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States.
Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, and we work with established providers (Supabase, Stripe, Vercel) for hosting and payments. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Artlance is a professional platform intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. For material changes we will notify you by email or with a notice on the site; for minor changes we will update the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
