1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Artlance, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our platform.
2. Description of Service
Artlance is a platform that connects art critics and writers with cultural institutions seeking commissioned art criticism. We facilitate the commissioning process, including payment processing, but do not directly employ writers or guarantee specific outcomes.
3. User Accounts
To use certain features of Artlance, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
4. Writer Terms
Writers on Artlance retain full intellectual property rights to their work. Writers agree to meet deadlines and quality standards as outlined in the Artlance Charter. Payment is processed upon editorial approval and publication.
5. Commissioner Terms
Commissioners agree to pay the stated rates for commissioned work. Commissioners understand that they are commissioning independent criticism and may not interfere with editorial content. Refunds are available only if a writer fails to deliver.
6. Editorial Independence
Artlance LLC guarantees editorial independence for all writers. Commissioners may not request specific opinions, conclusions, or content changes. This independence is fundamental to our platform and protected by the Artlance Charter.
7. Payments
Payments are processed through Stripe. Commissioners may pay via ACH bank transfer (default), credit or debit card, or invoice/wire transfer (by arrangement). Commissioners are charged upon commission creation. A credit card processing fee applies to card payments (see Commissioner Terms, Section 3). Writers receive payment upon publication approval via Stripe Connect. Platform fees are deducted automatically.
8. Limitation of Liability
Artlance is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Artlance LLC is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the platform, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill.
9. Modifications
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Continued use of Artlance after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
